Abstract Summary
Objective: To evaluate the safety and efficacy of ashwagandha root extract in improving sexual health in healthy women.
Context: Ashwagandha (Withania somnifera) is widely used for its adaptogenic and aphrodisiac properties.
Despite its traditional use in enhancing sexual health, scientific evidence supporting its safety and effectiveness in women is limited.
Methods Used
Approach: The study used a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled methodology to ensure unbiased results.
Data Collection: Healthy female participants were divided into two groups: one receiving ashwagandha root extract and the other receiving a placebo for eight weeks.
Researchers collected data on sexual health outcomes through validated questionnaires and monitored adverse effects using clinical assessments.
Researchers' Summary of Findings
Participants who received ashwagandha extract reported significant improvements in sexual satisfaction and function compared to those in the placebo group.
Minimal side effects, such as mild nausea and drowsiness, were observed and were comparable between both groups.
These results indicate that ashwagandha is both safe and effective for improving sexual health in women.
