Abstract Summary
Objective: To assess the impact of KSM-66 Ashwagandha on stress and anxiety levels in adults experiencing chronic stress.
Context: Chronic stress is a prevalent condition that adversely affects mental and physical health. Ashwagandha, known for its adaptogenic properties, has been traditionally utilized to enhance the body's resilience to stress. KSM-66 is a standardized, high-concentration Ashwagandha root extract.
Methods Used
Approach: A prospective, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled study.
Data Collection: Sixty-four adults with a history of chronic stress were randomly assigned to receive either 300 mg of KSM-66 Ashwagandha or a placebo twice daily for 60 days. Stress and anxiety levels were evaluated using the Perceived Stress Scale (PSS), General Health Questionnaire-28 (GHQ-28), and Depression Anxiety Stress Scale (DASS). Serum cortisol levels were also measured as a physiological marker of stress.
Researchers' Summary of Findings
Participants receiving KSM-66 Ashwagandha significantly reduced stress and anxiety scores across all assessment scales compared to the placebo group. Specifically, there was a 44% reduction in PSS scores and a substantial decrease in serum cortisol levels, indicating lowered stress. The study concluded that KSM-66 Ashwagandha effectively improves an individual's resistance to stress and enhances self-assessed quality of life.
