Abstract Summary
Objective: To evaluate the safety and efficacy of KSM-66 Ashwagandha in reducing stress and anxiety in adults.
Context: Stress and anxiety are prevalent conditions that can significantly impact quality of life. Ashwagandha, an adaptogenic herb, has been traditionally used to enhance the body's resilience to stress.
Methods Used
Approach: A prospective, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled study.
Data Collection: Sixty-four healthy adults with a history of chronic stress were randomly assigned to receive either 300 mg of KSM-66 Ashwagandha or a placebo, twice daily for 60 days. Stress and anxiety levels were assessed using the Perceived Stress Scale (PSS), General Health Questionnaire-28 (GHQ-28), and Depression Anxiety Stress Scale (DASS). Serum cortisol levels were also measured.
Researchers' Summary of Findings
The treatment group receiving KSM-66 Ashwagandha exhibited a significant reduction in stress and anxiety scores across all assessment scales compared to the placebo group. Specifically, there was a 44% reduction in PSS scores and a substantial decrease in serum cortisol levels, indicating lowered stress. The study concluded that KSM-66 Ashwagandha effectively improves an individual's resistance to stress and enhances self-assessed quality of life.
