Abstract Summary
Objective: To determine the effect of KSM-66 Ashwagandha on anxiety levels in individuals.
Context: Ashwagandha, an adaptogenic herb, has gained popularity for its potential to reduce stress and anxiety. KSM-66 is a specific formulation of ashwagandha known for its high concentration of withanolides, active compounds believed to contribute to its therapeutic benefits. This study investigates the efficacy of KSM-66 Ashwagandha on anxiety symptoms compared to a placebo.
Methods Used
Approach: A randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial.
Data Collection: 150 participants, aged 18–65, who reported moderate to severe anxiety symptoms, were given either KSM-66 Ashwagandha (300 mg twice daily) or a placebo for 8 weeks. Anxiety levels were measured using standardized scales such as the Hamilton Anxiety Rating Scale (HAM-A) and the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI).
Researchers' Summary of Findings
The study found that individuals who received KSM-66 Ashwagandha showed a significant reduction in anxiety symptoms compared to those who took the placebo. The treatment group experienced improvements in both psychological and physiological anxiety symptoms, including reduced heart rate and improved sleep quality. The dose of 600 mg per day was found to be optimal for anxiety reduction, with minimal side effects reported, including mild digestive upset in some participants.
